The Backyard Taco story began with Ruben and Marisela, who brought their love of Mexican food, family, and culture from Mazatlán, Mexico, to Arizona. Starting in 2005, they shared mesquite-grilled carne asada with family and friends, serving the kind of food that made people feel welcome from the first bite.
Word spread quickly. More people started showing up for tacos, and soon guests were following the smell of the grill to backyards all over town. The carne asada, fresh tortillas, salsa, and mesquite-infused flavor had become something people could not stop talking about.
There was only one small problem: the backyard was not big enough anymore.
After years of sharing mesquite-grilled tacos with family, friends, and a growing community of fans, Backyard Taco opened its first restaurant in Mesa in 2012.
That backyard feeling became the foundation for Backyard Taco: fresh Mexican food, cooked over a mesquite grill, served with warmth, flavor, and a little bit of fun.
